Employee commitment: swim to fight disease

Our colleague Susana Martínez Fuentes from SEKISUI SPECIALTY CHEMICALS EUROPE, participated in the Swim for ELA, in Spain, with the aim to raise funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research.

ALS is a fatal motor neuron disease that causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. ALS affects voluntary control of arms and legs and leads to trouble breathing. At the moment, there is no known cure for ALS.

On a beautiful day of May 11th, more than 250 swimmers divided into 42 teams participated in this charity event. They swam 23 km in 7 hours, from Calafat Port to Cambrils Port (Tarragona).

The total amount raised during this day summed up to 146,051.81 €, a record in Spain for a solidarity race. SSCE donated 300 € to Susana's team: Club de Vela Platja Llarga.

All the money collected will be invested in illness research to fight against this disease.

"Participating in the Swim for ELA charity event has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Alongside my colleagues, I took part in it with a clear purpose: to raise funds for research into a disease that affects countless lives.
The open water swimming event was a day charged with energy and excitement. Witnessing so many people come together for a common cause felt magical.
As we crossed the finish line, we were welcomed with grateful smiles from people suffering from ALS. Their appreciation was the greatest prize of all. By shedding light on this terrible disease, we hope to raise the necessary funds to enhance the health and well-being of those affected. Thank you, SEKISUI!"
